An Obligatory Civil War Beard

Here is a wonderful example of what appears to be a beard of the civil war vintage. I wonder who had the better showing as facial hair is concerned, the North or the South?

If you have any beard, moustache, etc. images that you would like to share, please feel free to email them to me - pogonologist [at] gmail.com. Special thanks to K for this handsome specimen.

Conan Speaks About His Beard; CNN Reports

Post-NBC claims that he's now a sex symbol (the beard helps): "No. Horrifying. I'm the worst person to comment on this. I grew a beard because I hate shaving. It's a feeling of liberation, and everybody who loses a job does it, or something. Next thing you know we're taking publicity photos with the beard. It could go tomorrow. I completely reject the notion I'm in any way a sex symbol and I think my fans do as well."

Jake "The Snake" Plummer - Livin' the Dream

If you, like me, have ever caught yourself asking the question, "I wonder what it is that Jake Plummer is up to these days?," you'll be happy to know that he is currently (or was in 2007 or thereabouts) living the dream. The handball dream, that is. And, of course, (I assume) he's still rockin' the Mountain Man beard. Good on 'ya, Jake. Good on 'ya.

The Worth of a Beard

There have been a number of occasions during which I was offered monies in exchange for the shaving of my beard. I have yet to accept any of these often paltry sums of money, much like the vast majority of bearded men in this video.

Special thanks to Tommy Two Arms for the link.

Bearded American Dies in the Desert

Bearded American and Ultimate Fighter Evan Tanner recently succumbed to the Mighty Desert of the Southwestern United States.

While a beard can improve your burly factor (up to 4X), it generally serves as limited protection against the desert elements - including heat, snakes, cacti, and javelinas.

RIP Bearded American Evan Tanner.
