Behold a Beard of Failure, one that belonged to Henry Hudson, famed explorer of North America who has a few bodies of water named in his honor. Apparently Hudson was left to die by his mutinous crew, adrift in a small boat with his teenage son and a few other loyal schlubbs, after wintering in what is now Canada and hoping to press further westward in 1611 or so. (He never did find that Northwest Passage as it turns out.) In hindsight, he probably should have just went home.
